Thanks to the generosity of many of you, we were able to raise enough money to keep up three meals a day for 2 more months. This is good news. Unfortunately, at the end of the two months, we’ll be faced with the same crisis once again. Three thousand meals are served daily. There are so many children here that they eat in shifts and most of them eat standing up.
The breakfast meal is oatmeal, grits or plain spaghetti. Lunch consists of rice and beans and a sauce made from a mixture of spices or cornmeal with bean sauce. This is the most nutritious meal of the day. Supper is a light meal like breakfast. It is often a soup with dumplings or a sort of flour-based pudding. This is the meal in jeopardy. This meal costs 24 cents per child. The total cost of dinner is $7,200 per month. Without this meal, these children will be hungrier, have less energy and probably be less focused on their schooling and jobs here at the village. They will also be fearful of their future if they see us cut back on food. The domino effect will result in further troubles here at Hope Village.
In two months, we will have spent all the funds that we raised to address this food crisis. In our last appeal, we only received a few monthly donations equal to a small fraction of our food bill increase. To those who have made a monthly commitment, I am sincerely grateful. If 290 people make monthly recurring donations of $24 each, we can cover this food increase for an extended period of time…and not have to eliminate the supper meal for the kids. I humbly ask for your help. If $24 per month is too much, would you consider $7.20 per month to cover one child’s dinner each month? Please pray that we won’t be faced with this tough choice once again. And send a link to this website to others to help spread the word and raise the money to feed the kids.
